Starting from pole position, Tony Arbolino was naturally hoping to win his home Grand Prix at Misano. However, the Italian encountered a few complications, particularly physical ones, which prevented him from competing on equal terms with his rivals during the event, having to settle for third place overall.
Tony felt weak when he woke up last Sunday, on what was certainly the most important day of his season. Starting from pole position for the first time in his Moto2 career, the Italian wanted to climb to the top step of the podium at home. However, these minor health problems prevented him from doing so.
Author of a fantastic start, the Marc VDS Racing driver led the first of the 1 laps to complete, keeping Aron Canet and Ai Ogura in his wake.
However, it did not last, as his two opponents of the day gained momentum, to distance him from his dream. Tony Arbolino thus fell to third place. A ranking in which he reached the finish.
This is the Italian's second podium this season, after the Aragon Grand Prix. If in Spain, the number 14 was disappointed to only be second, he is more than satisfied with the podium he got in Misano given the complications he encountered.
"I don't feel good today, so I'm quite happy with the result, entrusts Tony Arbolino. I couldn't sleep last night. I was waking up every hour because I felt a little sick. But that's how it is. I could control it at first, but I saw on the dashboard that I wasn't creating enough of a gap to the others.
So I was trying to manage that, because I knew there would be a loss of grip with the tire degradation at the end of the race, He continues. When I fell to third place, I waited and was almost ready to attack again. But when I saw that (Celestino) Vietti had crashed behind, I thought it was important to bring home that third place.
A podium that also allows him to increase his score in the championship, while he currently claims tenth place, with a total of 97 points. He will nevertheless have an opportunity to take his revenge in just under two weeks, when Moto2 returns to Misano to contest the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, which replaces the Indian Grand Prix, cancelled during the season.
“It’s a really fantastic podium considering I feel so bad. Also, I didn’t feel 100% confident with the bike, so we have to keep going like this and try to improve the feeling for the next race here in two weeks.” concludes Tony Arbolino.
