Dominant during pre-season testing and the first free practice session at Losail, Jorge Lorenzo found himself in difficulty during FP2, only finishing in a modest and unusual 9th position, however only half a second of this neon red and yellow devil from Iannone.
At the time, the Mallorcan driver appeared tense in his pit, even going so far as to nervously change his helmet, and no one knew the real reason for this (relatively) difficult passage.
The press release tells us; it was the wind which, in fact, was blowing at 18 km/h at that time on the Qatari circuit.
The Yamaha rider recovered well at the end of the evening, positioning his M1 only a tenth from the monstrous Ducati D16GP of the still very fast Andrea Iannone.
Jorge Lorenzo: “During the first session, it was windy and we had a lot of trouble being competitive, compared to the other drivers. It was as if the wind affected them less. In the evening, especially in the last laps, there was no more wind and we were able to be competitive and try different tires. Finally, we have an idea of the best rubber for the race, but I would like to improve my pace a little. We are in the leading group, but I would like to have an advantage. We'll see if we can do it tomorrow, before qualifying. »
