Ana Carrasco

Ana Carrasco considers the creation of the Women's World Speed Championship to be "an incredible milestone" in the history of motorsports.

Ana Carrasco was the first woman to reach the world level in motorcycle racing. That was in 2013, in Moto3, and since then she has continued to pave the way for young women, notably by becoming Supersport 300 World Champion against 37 men in 2018. Last year, she also won the very first season of the Women's World Championship (WCR).

This year, it is competing in the Supersport World Championship and has therefore returned to a mixed championship, but considers the creation of the WCR as a major step in the history of motorcycling. "Motorsports have historically been male-dominated, and there has never been a distinction between women and men, with a women's championship and a men's championship. We've always raced together.", she recalled in the Spanish podcast Neither so much good.

"Last year, for the first time in history, the first Women's World Championship was created. It was an incredible milestone in the world of motorsports. Ten years ago, it was unthinkable to have 25 girls competing in a world championship."

Ten years ago, in fact, she and María Herrera were the exception, and the sport was still considered exclusively male. For the two-time World Champion, the female figures who are coming to the forefront alongside her, such as Beatriz Neila or Roberta Ponziani, are important for the development of this sport among little girls, who can become the champions of tomorrow.

"It's true that it surprises people a little, because my references have always been masculine. I've never had a female reference in my sport because there never were any," he continued. "That's why the fact that there is a women's world championship today, and that I won the title in 2018 in a championship made up entirely of men, are things that are very important, especially so that little girls can say 'shit, if Ana is in the World Championship, I can too, if there is the Women's World Championship, I can also get there'."
