On the difficult Sachsenring circuit in Germany, Pirelli sets new records and improves overall race time in both categories; the new D0532 rear tire is the protagonist in Moto2™.
The Moto2™ and Moto3™ races were extremely hot and fast at the Sachsenring, the circuit that hosted the German Grand Prix of the World Championship MotoGP.
Moto2™ triumph went to the Spaniard Fermin Aldeguer (MB Conveyors SpeedUp/Boscoscuro), with his second victory of the season after winning the Catalan GP. Like most drivers on the grid, Aldeguer used the new D0532 development soft rear tire in the race that Pirelli introduced right here at the Sachsenring, an extremely demanding circuit for tires.
David Alonso (CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team/CFMOTO) returned to victory in Moto3™ after an absence in the Netherlands, now boasting an incredible record of six victories from a total of nine races contested.
In both categories, thanks in particular to the performance of the Pirelli tires, new track lap records were set and overall race times were improved, with a pace better by more than three tenths.
» The Sachsenring is undoubtedly one of the most demanding circuits on the calendar alongside, for various reasons, Qatar, Catalonia and Australia. That said, we can consider ourselves satisfied with the results obtained during this GP, given the exceptional performance of all the compounds. As on many other occasions this year, in Germany we also set new track and race lap records in both categories, while improving the overall race time. The new D0532 development soft rear tire making its Moto2™ debut performed extremely well and was also the most used compound in racing. This is not a result to be taken for granted and indicates that the teams and drivers have confidence in our work and have no qualms about using new solutions immediately. The fact that this new tire was the most used allowed us to collect useful data for future developments. In Moto3™, the SC2 rear also performed similarly in terms of wear resistance and outright performance, with race lap time differences contained to a few tenths of a second from start to finish. It is therefore an extremely positive outcome for this weekend and we now turn to the races to come with Silverstone which will mark the halfway point of the season. »
Moto2 ™
– For the rear, 24 of the 30 drivers on the grid opted for the new D0532 development soft tire, while the other 6 used the standard SC0 soft tire. At the front, exactly 2/3 of the drivers chose the soft SC1, the other 10 using the medium SC2.
– The total time of the race was 35'07.384, almost 8 seconds more than in 2023, which translates into an average improvement per lap of 3 tenths of a second.
– Using the new D0532 soft rear tire and the SC1 soft front tire, Tony Arbolino (Elf Marc VDS Racing Team/Kalex) set the new race lap record on the second lap with a time of 1'23.449, beating the previous by more than 2 tenths. Besides him, 6 other drivers fell below the previous record.
Moto3 ™
– The choice of rear tire for the race was unanimous. Everyone opted for the medium SC2, the best option for the characteristics of the German track. Most drivers (19 out of 26) associated it with the SC2 medium at the front, while only 7 drivers preferred the SC1 soft. On the podium, David Alonso (CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team/CFMOTO), winner of the race, and Iván Ortolá (MT Helmets-MSI/KTM), third, used the SC2 medium at the front, while Taiyo Furusato (Honda Team Asia/Honda), second, opted for the SC1 soft.
– Iván Ortolá (MT Helmets-MSI/KTM) set the new race lap record in 1'25.467, beating the previous record set by Daniel Holgado in 2 by 2022 tenths. In total, nine riders fell below the previous one race lap record.
– Compared to 2023, this year the average race pace was improved by more than three tenths and the 23-lap race was 7 and a half seconds faster compared to 2023 with the same number of laps.
