Despite the concern surrounding Jorge Martín's health, the successful completion of his operation in Spain on Tuesday has brought some relief. The Spanish rider underwent successful surgery after his serious crash in Japan. While the procedure was performed without major complications, the timeline for his return remains unclear.
After a heavy crash during the sprint start of the Japanese Grand Prix, Jorge Martín returned to Europe to undergo surgery for a broken collarbone. While this type of injury usually requires little recovery time, the Spaniard's case appears to be more serious. His team, Aprilia Racing, reached out earlier this week to announce that everything had gone well in surgery for the number 1.
On the sidelines of the Indonesian Grand Prix, it was Doctor Ángel Charte, medical director of MotoGP, who spoke about the intervention. "Jorge Martín's operation was successful. It was a complex procedure due to a fracture involving three fragments, which were fixed with screws in the middle-distal third of the bone, and a support plate was placed to prevent any displacement.", he explained.
The surgery was aimed at stabilizing the area and ensuring better long-term recovery. However, doctors remain cautious about the timeframe. “Recovery times are still uncertain. We cannot give an exact date for his return, but rehabilitation will begin as soon as possible.”, the official said.
While it is certain that the reigning world champion will miss this weekend's event, the unknown still looms over a return for the Australian Grand Prix. Jorge Martin, who has already missed the first eleven rounds of the season due to a succession of injuries, knows he is fragile and has already announced in the past that he will no longer neglect his recovery time, as he did when he attempted an early return in Qatar.
