Two weeks apart, Johan Gimbert et Lorenzo Fellon announced that they would continue to compete in the Moto2 European Championship with their respective teams, as part of the JuniorGP.
Johann Gimbert took part in his first season in Moto2 last year, with Raul Jara's PromoRacing team. A year of learning for the 600 French Supersport 2023 Champion, which resulted in 10th place in the final standings, with the highlight being a 4th place in the Jerez race and the unofficial title of first rookie despite a shoulder injury that handicapped him in the last two rounds.
"I imagined the step would be high... but not this high. The Moto2 European Championship has suddenly gained momentum this season. At the front, things are going very strong. As strong as in the World Championship! Look at Jorge Navarro: he is called to Sepang (Malaysian GP) for a replacement and boom, pole position and podium (2nd)! Europe is really the antechamber of the Grands Prix. The first five or six will take the elevator.", he told Var Matin.
For his second year, the Frenchman will aim for at least the top 5 with a 2024 Kalex, in the hope of eventually being able to follow in the footsteps of some of his now famous predecessors in the category, such as Fermin Aldeguer who starts this season in MotoGP.
To Lorenzo Fellon, the 2024 season was more difficult, with the boy still suffering the handicap of his shoulder problem which had already harmed him in the Moto3 Grand Prix. After finishing 14th in the general classification, the Vauclusian suffered a new shoulder operation in order to be able to approach the season in better conditions, but always with the Valencian team SF Racing.
We also hope he reaches the top 5.
