Aron Canet Diogo Moreira

Arón Canet has given his view on Diogo Moreira's Moto2 title, which he considers logical but not entirely deserved.

Aron Canet He concluded a somewhat disappointing 2025 season. Runner-up in the world championship last year behind Ai Ogura, he was logically the favorite for the title this year after the Japanese rider's move to MotoGP. He would face no shortage of rivals, and Manuel González, who had finished third in the championship, was certainly one to watch.

Si Canet He started the year at the front, as expected, but didn't dominate as anticipated, and even experienced a dip in form mid-season. Meanwhile, González largely dominated before also encountering difficulties in the final races. Conversely, Diogo Moreira and Barry Baltus have grown in strength and established themselves as the strongest men at the end of the championship.

Ultimately, Moreira was crowned champion ahead of González, Baltus and Canetwho finished only fourth. In his eyes, the Brazilian's victory is logical, but he admits he doesn't consider it entirely deserved. It's important to remember that González was disqualified in Indonesia due to non-compliant software and thus lost the 20 points for his second-place finish. This penalty reshuffled the cards for the end of the championship, however. Moreira was crowned champion with a 30-point lead.

"It's complicated. You could say the championship has become really tense. Ultimately, everyone has to draw their own conclusions. With all due respect to Manu and Diogo, I think that in a case like this, the best rider won. For me, he wasn't necessarily the most deserving, but he was certainly the best.", said Canet Nico Abad's podcast.

“This year Moreira has really stepped up his game. I’ve had a thousand problems. Manu has also had a thousand problems. Whether it was due to a tire strategy, a mechanical failure, being stripped of his podium finish, or crashing himself, he’s accumulated a lot of poor performances. Barry has also been improving. In the end, the one who managed things best was Diogo. At the beginning of the season, during the first four or five races, I didn’t imagine I’d be fighting for the championship against him. I think he still has a lot of room for improvement in MotoGP.”

“It’s a real shame Manu didn’t win because he truly deserved it. He had an excellent season from start to finish, but it’s true that in the last few races, I saw him falter a bit, things we hadn’t seen at the beginning of the season. But hey, he’s young and still has a lot to learn. I’m sure he’ll be even stronger next year.”he concluded.

The two Spaniards will face off again in 2026 alongside Barry Baltus, while Diogo Moreira has already made his MotoGP debut.
