The 2 Moto2025 French Grand Prix weekend was marked by difficulty, but above all, by learning for the Aspar team. On the Le Mans circuit, the team's two riders, David Alonso and Dani Holgado, had to contend with difficult racing conditions, marked by the threat of rain and a highly competitive field.
After a remarkable debut and several solid performances, Team Aspar's drivers suffered a slight setback at Le Mans. For Daniel Holgado, who has established himself as the best rookie in the category since the beginning of the year, the Le Mans weekend was a true test of humility.
The French Grand Prix was, in fact, the first truly complicated weekend since his arrival in Moto2. Qualifying far down the grid (21st), he had to battle through the pack, without ever finding the pace that had allowed him to shine in previous races. Despite his efforts and a courageous comeback, he finished 16th, outside the points. He nevertheless retained his status as top rookie in the general classification, having acquired many lessons.
Holgado thus acknowledged having discovered "the reality of Moto2", a demanding category where the slightest error is paid in cash and where learning also involves difficulties. "We finished Sunday at Le Mans with a very difficult race, he confides after the raceI had fun and learned, which is the most important thing. I have a good experience in this Grand Prix."
"It's a category that is not at all easy and everyone knows that it requires a lot of work, He continues. I don't see it as a bad weekend, but rather a productive one with a lot of learning. I want to thank the team because, even though the results weren't always achieved, they tried to help us improve. I have a lot of experience and I want more."
David Alonso, also a rookie, had a difficult race after a string of encouraging weekends. He managed to pull through, finishing 11th, matching his best result of the season, after having to serve a penalty. While he was unable to secure a top 10 finish, he highlighted the progress he's made with his starts and the need to continue adapting to the intensity of Moto2 as well.
"We knew we had a penalty to serve and we started the race with that idea, adds the Colombian. We improved at the start, which was one of the things we had waiting for: to have a good first lap. After serving the penalty, the pace was more consistent, especially in the last laps, when I was more competitive. I'm happy because it was a solid race. Now we have to try to take more advantage of the new tire, which is where I notice the biggest difference with the first riders."
Both drivers therefore agree that this French Grand Prix made them aware of the demanding level of the category, but also of the importance of patience and consistency to progress among the elite of the intermediate class.. This weekend at Le Mans will therefore remain a formative stage for the rookies of the Aspar team.
