Sergio Garcia

After being ousted from the Moto2 World Championship in June, Sergio García will return to Hungary with a great opportunity to show his potential.

Last June, the Moto2 World Championship experienced a thunderbolt with the separation of Sergio García and the MSI team, leaving the Spanish rider without a handlebar. He will be temporarily back in the paddock this weekend, and will definitely be keen to show his potential.

García was indeed one of the strong men of the championship, just as he had been in Moto3, where he finished runner-up in 2022. Last year, he fought for the Moto2 title and finished fourth, which gave hope for a new battle this season. Unfortunately, it did not go as planned. First injured at the very end of the winter tests, he then missed the first three Grands Prix, before stringing together results outside the points on his return.

However, he only had five Grands Prix to try to regain his form before the announcement of his separation from the MSI team was made. Since then, he has not returned to the saddle, but landed a great opportunity this weekend in Hungary. He was called up by the Intact GP team to replace Senna Agius, injured last weekend in Austria.

Senna Agius

Senna Agius has withdrawn from the Hungarian GP.

García will therefore benefit from one of the best bikes on the grid, the Australian being ninth in the championship and his teammate, Manuel González, the current leader. Reinvigorated by his months away from racing, but inevitably handicapped by his lack of riding, he knows that his performance will be watched very closely by the teams with a view to next year.

"It's never good news to have to replace someone, and I wish Senna a speedy recovery.", did he declare. "I would like to thank the LIQUI MOLY Dynavolt Intact GP Team for giving me the opportunity to return to the Moto2 World Championship and to be able to ride on the new Balaton Park circuit. Even though I have been able to participate in very few races this year, I am very motivated and eager to work and translate the trust they have given me into a good result."
