As the lights went out, Izan Guevara got off to the best start, but was quickly retaken by Diogo Moreira. The Brazilian then managed the first part of the race, bringing Daniel Holgado into his wheelhouse. Behind, the battle for third place intensified between Izan Guevara and Manuel Gonzalez. Behind, Aron Canet made a spectacular start, while his teammate, Barry Baltus, fell down the order.
The Fantic riders, however, quickly moved back up to the front, aided by their pace and numerous incidents. Notable among these were the crashes of the two Aspar riders, David Alonso and Daniel Holgado, and a technical incident for Celestino Vietti. After nine laps of racing, Diogo Moreira leads by a second over Manuel Gonzalez. Aron Canet, who started 21st, is already 4th, while Barry Baltus is in 7th place.
In the second half of the race, the gaps remained stable at the front. Diogo Moreira maintained a margin over Manuel Gonzalez, who was 3 seconds ahead of Izan Guevara. The latter, however, managed to contain the comeback of Aron Canet. Once the Fantic riders had completed their comeback, the Spaniard was two seconds behind Izan Guevara, while Barry Baltus was 1.7 seconds behind his teammate, in 4th and 5th positions.
At the end of the race, Manuel Gonzalez let go, allowing Diogo Moreira to cruise to victory in the Moto2 Indonesian GP. He took second place, conceding five points to the Brazilian for the championship. Despite the two men behind him coming back, Izan Guevara held on to his podium. The final unknown at the end of the race was the duel between Aron Canet and Barry Baltus for 4th place. Despite the Belgian's comeback, just a few tenths behind the Spaniard, he was running out of time to make any moves.
