Following an emotional Moto2 Italian Grand Prix, Aron Canet made his voice heard on a topic close to his heart: respect between riders on the track. The Spaniard from the Fantic Racing team, third in his team's home race, expressed his satisfaction with the team's performance. But he also pointed to certain behaviors on the track, particularly during his duel with Diogo Moreira for third place.
Second in Qualifying, after seeing a time disallowed and eventually reinstated, Aron Canet established himself in the leading group from the start. Despite some difficulties on Mugello's long straights, he was able to compensate in the technical sections, linking up restarts and overtaking moves with panache. The finale of the race kept the spectators on the edge of their seats: a knife-edge duel with Diogo Moreira, punctuated by overtaking moves, counterattacks, and pinpoint braking.
The two men touched repeatedly, sometimes even sending each other out of bounds. Aron Canet nevertheless resisted the pressure and launched a decisive attack on his opponent on the last lap, followed by an aggressive defense, to take the podium..
In his post-race statements, Canet praised the work of the entire team and the mobilization of the supporters: “It was a truly special weekend and I would like to sincerely thank the entire Fantic Racing Lino Sonego team for their incredible work, as well as all the sponsors and guests who came to support us here in Mugello. Feeling such strong support at the team's home GP was moving and gave me an extra boost.”
But the Spaniard also wanted to address the nature of the battle for the podium: "I'm really happy with the podium: we worked hard to find the right feeling, and today I was able to push with confidence. The battle for third was intense, maybe even a little aggressive at times. It was beautiful, I enjoyed that battle. We can touch on the last lap, in the last corner, but not in every corner. Normally, I'm cleaner with the riders, but if you want war, I'll give you war."
This remark, although measured, reflects a certain annoyance in Canet, who has had to face maneuvers, which he considers borderline, on the part of Moreira. Despite this tense climate, Canet remains focused on the future: "NWe got the podium, and that's what matters. We now have a strong pace, a good feeling and a lot of confidence. I'm super excited for Assen: we're ready to keep fighting!"
The team manager, Roberto Locatelli, praised his driver's mental strength: " It was a great Sunday. Aron drove an exceptional race, fighting hard until the very last corner to take this podium.
