Last Sunday was a historic day for the Fantic Racing team, since with Aron canet fourth and Barry Baltus Fifth at the Portuguese Grand Prix, the Italian team secured the World Team Championship. Moto2 2025, when there is still one race to run, in Valencia.
This is the first world title for the Italian brand in the MotoGP World Championship paddock, thus crowning in Portimão a season of exceptional performances, built on regularity, speed and a true team spirit.
Throughout the year, Barry Baltus et Aron canet have climbed onto the podium 13 times, confirming Fantic Racing as one of the most competitive and consistent forces in the intermediate Grand Prix category.
At Portimão, Canet once again demonstrated his talent, remaining in contention for a podium finish until the very last lap. After a cautious start, the Spaniard found his rhythm and joined the leading group of four riders, putting up a brilliant fight to the end to finish just shy of the podium in fourth place.
Barry Baltus, for his part, produced a remarkable comeback. After a difficult start that relegated him outside the Top 10, the Belgian driver counter-attacked with determination, steadily climbing back up to fifth position which he defended intelligently until the checkered flag.
With the 24 points scored today, Fantic Racing mathematically secures the 2025 Moto2 World Team Championship, sealing an unforgettable season and allowing them to approach the final round in Valencia with confidence.
For its pilots, however, it's quite the opposite, since behind Diogo Moreira et Manuel Gonzalez, Barry Baltus now occupies 3rd position in the Moto2 world championship, Aron canet the 4th.
And the two teammates are separated by only 6 points!
This week in Valencia, the final race of the season will undoubtedly be under very high tension…
Aron Canet, 4th in Portimao: “I can’t say I’m completely satisfied, because today I really wanted the podium. We had the pace to stay with the leaders until the end, but in the final laps, I lacked that little extra something to be able to attack. Nevertheless, it was a solid race, with important points that allowed the team to secure the world title. The team has worked hard throughout the season, and this result is the fruit of its commitment and consistency. Now, we’re looking ahead to Valencia to finish the year in the best possible way.”
Barry Baltus: “We can’t be disappointed with today’s top-five finish, especially after winning the World Team Championship. It shows how well both sides of the garage have worked together all year, and this result is for them, for all the effort and passion they’ve put in. Personally, I’m a little disappointed because I felt we had the pace to fight for the podium. The first corner didn’t go as planned because I had a problem with the front brake, which cost me a few positions, dropping me to P12. From there, I had to recover and managed to climb back up to fifth. Going from 12th to 5th is still a good result. We were fast, competitive, and now I’m already focused on Valencia, where we’ll give it our all to finish the season strong.”
Roberto Locatelli, Team Manager of Fantic Racing in Moto2: “We are World Champions, and the credit goes to every member of the team. We have always praised the riders who pilot the motorcycles, but if the Fantic Racing team is World Champion, it is thanks to the work of every department. Behind this achievement, there are two teams that collaborated, with technicians and mechanics who worked together to make the team the best in the world in 2025. Congratulations to everyone who contributed to this project, and of course to the riders as well, who gave us so much to cheer about, pushed us to our limits, and provided us with so much excitement by winning races and achieving exceptional results.”
