Moto2

Moto2 returns to Europe after four overseas rounds. To kick off this long tour of the Old Continent, the Jerez circuit hosts the world championship for the Spanish Grand Prix. After a hard-fought round in Qatar, Aron Canet took advantage of his superb victory to take the lead in the championship. Jake Dixon and Manuel Gonzalez, however, remain a few points behind the Spaniard, ready to reclaim the lead in a standings they have both already led this season.

Moto2 returns to the track this Saturday morning for FP2 of the Spanish Grand Prix. Unlike Friday afternoon, this session has no stakes, except that it's the riders' last chance to prepare for this afternoon's qualifying.

Aron Canet, who had been discreet throughout the first day of action at Jerez, woke up in FP2. On home soil, the Spaniard quickly took the lead with a time of 1:40.248, which would remain unbeaten for a long time. The strong men from the day before, Deniz Oncu and Barry Baltus, were then somewhat behind. This situation remained for most of the session, during which no major incidents were reported.

We will particularly remember Jake Dixon's borderline braking, and the muscular battle between Aron Canet and the very fit Senna Agius.

As the final attempts approach, Manuel Gonzalez finally dethrones the championship leader with a lap of 1:40.115. He is closely followed by Celestino Vietti.

However, it was Deniz Oncu who showed the greatest improvement on the Jerez circuit, moving from eighth to first place by erasing each other's marks by more than five tenths. The Turk thus clocked a lap of 1:39.564, three tenths faster than the lap record he set on Friday morning. The #53 didn't stop there, and almost burying this already impressive record due to a slight error in sector 4. His garage neighbor had a difficult end to the session in comparison, with Celestino Vietti going off at turn 13.

No one can match Deniz Oncu's time at the checkered flag, so he completes his second session in the lead this weekend, ahead of Gonzalez and Vietti.
