Maximo Quiles

After a resounding debut in Moto3, Máximo Quiles will be absent again this weekend for the Spanish Grand Prix.

Maximo Quiles certainly did not expect to have such a special debut in the Moto3 World Championship. The young Spanish hopeful, supported by Marc Márquez, was forced to miss the first two Grands Prix due to his age and, after having performed very well in Austin, he is again absent for two Grand Prix, this time due to injury.

As a reminder, Maximo Quiles had to bite the bullet and wait until the Grand Prix of the Americas to finally take part in his first race weekend, as he was not yet the required 17 years of age to compete at world level. This rule had also been revised at the end of last year, since in theory you have to be of legal age to ride in the world championship.

However, the top three finishers in the FIM Junior GP World Championship and the Red Bull Rookies Cup now benefit from an exemption, provided they are 17 years old. Quiles, third in the FIM Junior GP World Championship, had to wait until his 17th birthday on March 19, and thus missed the first two Grands Prix in Thailand and Argentina.

The Spaniard didn't need to be asked twice during his first laps on the demanding Austin track, qualifying in second place, just a tenth off pole position. He then led the race for a few laps before finishing fifth. This gives hope for great things in this first season at world level.

Unfortunately for him, Quiles He suffered the injury during training ahead of the Qatar Grand Prix, where he unknowingly suffered the injury. Further examinations revealed a fracture at the base of the first metacarpal in his right hand, forcing him to miss the GP and return to Spain for surgery.

The operation consisted of an open reduction and fixation of the fracture using a plate and screws. The young Spaniard's recovery has been progressing well since then, but still needs time. For this reason, he will again be absent from the Spanish Grand Prix this weekend in Jerez, and will be replaced once again by Joel Esteban.
