Ten Grands Prix. Nine world titles in sight. A resounding dominance... and a hefty price tag. That's the halftime summary of Marc Marquez's first season with Ducati. While the Spaniard is filling the Borgo Panigale display cases with trophies, he's also draining his bank account with colossal bonuses...
In just ten races, Marquez has already collected nearly 1,5 million euros in bonuses, thanks to its impressive record of six Sunday victories and new sprints won. And the halfway point of the season hasn't even been reached yet! If the infernal pace continues, the Spanish rider could dexceed 6 million'euros bonus at the end of the year, excluding fixed salary.
The numbers are there:
150 000 € for every victory on Sunday
40 000 € by sprint won
80 000 € for a second place in GP
40 000 € for a third place
Et Ducati planned the coup de grace: 3 million euros extra if Marquez wins the world titleAt the rate he's going, that bonus seems more than likely.
Marc Marquez: an investment… that pays off on the track
Certainly, the contract of Marquez represents a financial impact. But sportingly, Ducati enjoys the luxury of having “the best rider in the world on the best bike,” as the men in red constantly repeat.
Despite some setbacks – accidents and races in the rain – Marc Marquez turned every opportunity into gold. Ducati savors the glory of having the best rider on the best bike, but at what cost? Every lap led in MotoGP by Marc is a victory… and a check.
Le SachsenringWhere Marquez reigns supreme, promises to be a new raid. For Ducati, the triumph comes at a cost, but with Marquez, the legend is priceless. For now, at Ducati, the only thing that runs faster than the Desmosedici GP25 is the bonus counter of Marc Marquez.
