• The Liqui Moly Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix 2025, 19th round of the FIM World Championship MotoGP ™, offered an intense and spectacular weekend at the Phillip Island circuit in Australia, marked by high-level performances and many twists and turns.
• Highly variable weather conditions, strong wind, cold and then sunshine, allowed the entire MICHELIN Power Slick tire allocation to be validated. Saturday was a particularly fast day, with all the manufacturers improving their benchmarks on one of the most demanding tracks on the calendar.
• The 2025 allocation fully confirmed its relevance. The Hard front tire provided good cornering support throughout the Tissot Sprint and the Grand Prix, while the new Medium rear stood out for its quick revving and great consistency of performance over the duration of the race.

A full weekend for the MICHELIN Power range

Following a complete resurfacing in 2024, Phillip Island offered high grip but a bumpier surface this year. Starting on Friday, drivers were able to test all front and rear tire combinations in particularly cool and windy conditions.

The MICHELIN Power Slick Medium rear tire quickly distinguished itself with its rapid warm-up and consistency over long runs, while at the front, the Medium and Hard tires received the best reviews.

The practice session saw a spectacular improvement in lap times, with eleven riders dropping below the previous track record, a testament to the tires' high performance. Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia Racing) set the fastest time in 1'26.492, 0.754 seconds faster than the previous record set by Jorge Martin in 2023.

 Record performances in Tissot Sprint

On Saturday, the cold morning prompted the riders to opt for softer tyres in qualifying, where Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Team) set a new all-time track record of 1'26.465, taking pole position.

The Tissot Sprint, held on a track heated to 32°C, offered a superb demonstration of the adaptability of MICHELIN Power tires. All riders chose the Soft rear tire, while at the front, the Hard proved the most effective solution, although five riders preferred the Medium.

The race was won by Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia Racing) in 19:03.971, ten seconds faster than the previous benchmark. Raul Fernandez (Trackhouse MotoGP Team) took second place, ahead of Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing).

A competitive Grand Prix and consistent performances

On Sunday morning, strong gusts of wind confirmed the relevance of the decision taken the day before to postpone the start of the Grand Prix by one hour. When the lights went out at 15:00 p.m. local time, the track temperature was 24°C and the air temperature was 21°C—ideal conditions for fully exploiting the potential of the MICHELIN Power Slick tires.

In accordance with Michelin's recommendations, the entire field opted for a Hard front / Medium rear combination, ensuring stability, consistency and grip over the 27 laps. Only Somkiat Chantra (LCR Honda) preferred a Medium front tire.

The 2025 Liqui Moly Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix was won by Raul Fernandez (Trackhouse MotoGP Team), who had a perfectly managed race. Fabio Di Giannantonio (Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team) took second place, ahead of Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia Racing), who finished third despite two " long lap ».

Piero Taramasso, Michelin Motorsport Two-Wheel Manager

« Phillip Island is always an exceptional challenge, and this 2025 edition demonstrated this once again. The conditions were very changeable, with cold, windy conditions, followed by a rapid rise in temperatures on Saturday afternoon. This allowed us to validate almost all the tire combinations we had brought.

The drivers were able to fully exploit the performance of the MICHELIN Power range: the Soft rear shone in the Sprint, while the Hard front / Medium rear combination perfectly met the demands of the Grand Prix. The temperature differences between the two sidewalls – typical of this asymmetrical circuit – were very well controlled thanks to the specific design of our tires.

We also saw a notable improvement in the overall level of performance. The times beaten several times, the consistency over the distance, and the satisfaction expressed by the drivers confirm the relevance of our technical choices and the adjustments made since the 2024 resurfacing.

Phillip Island remains a unique circuit, where nature, wind, and speed combine to create extreme conditions. Seeing our tires perform in this environment, with records set and races fought hard, is a great reward for the entire Michelin Motorsport team. »

A positive technical assessment before the next Grand Prix in Malaysia

The Australian weekend allowed Michelin to validate the consistency of its 2025 range on one of the most demanding tracks in the championship.

The ability of MICHELIN Power tires to maintain grip, stability and consistency in changing conditions boosts the confidence of drivers and teams ahead of the next round of the season, the Petronas Grand Prix of Malaysia, held at the Petronas Sepang International Circuit from October 24 to 26, 2025.
