Oliveira Le Mans

Miguel Oliveira is finally back at Le Mans! The Portuguese driver, injured since the sprint of the Argentine Grand Prix, had not been able to show up at the start since due to a very difficult-to-treat tendon injury – a sternoclavicular dislocation. Since then, a lot has changed: Yamaha has returned to the podium and, most importantly, a new rule has been introduced. Riders who have missed three consecutive Grands Prix can now benefit from a test to get back in shape. Surprisingly, he's not too keen...

The Pramac Racing driver is delighted to be back in the paddock after such a long absence. Unfortunately, he has become accustomed to trips to the infirmary over the past few years. « After two months of absence, I can't wait to run again. It's a bit strange because I feel like I'm in pre-season. In any case, I feel good, in good shape. I still have some pain but it's okay. I'm sure I'll run on Sunday, if nothing happens, of course. » he confided for GP One a few hours ago.

This new rule regarding returns from injury, introduced at the request of Massimo Rivola, could have affected him: Given that he missed three full Grands Prix, Oliveira was eligible. But the Portuguese isn't a big fan of this measure, which he considers somewhat unnecessary. « It's a good idea but under very specific conditions.. Martin, for example, could use it because he doesn't know the motorcycle. But to put it into practice, it's more difficult. You need a whole team ready for testing, it costs a lot of money and tires. Is it really worth it? I don't know. It's positive, yes, but you can also get on a road Superbike to see if you're fit, and at a lower cost." he added.

In any case, Oliveira no longer has to worry and was galvanised by Quartararo's podium finish in Jerez. « It was fantastic! We know he's strong there, but he showed all his talent. All the Yamahas were excellent too. Jack Miller was strong, and Alex Rins managed to find some rhythm after his big crash. Everything has been improved, chassis and engine alike. The bike is very different from the one I left in Argentina." he concluded.
