Raul Fernandez Indonesia

Raúl Fernández set the fifth fastest time this Friday in Indonesia, further asserting himself at the forefront.

Slowly but surely, Raul Fernandez is making his mark in the MotoGP top 10. He has been a regular at the forefront for several Grands Prix, but has struggled to get into Q2 and has seen his races affected by his poor grid positions. Last weekend in Japan, he managed to automatically qualify for Q2 on Friday, and thus managed to finish both races in the top eight.

But the Spanish pilot had announced it: getting to Q2 was not enoughHe believes he now needs to step up a gear during the qualifying session in order to start from the front two rows. This Friday in Indonesia, with a new livery, the scenario is unfolding as he wishes for the moment, since after finding his marks in FP1 with the 11th time, he finished fifth in Practice and thus earned his ticket to Q2.

Having managed to concentrate his work on the tires, which often cause him problems, he is optimistic for tomorrow, and hopes to finally qualify among the top six. "I'm happy. Yesterday's goal was to be in Q2 and we managed to achieve it.", did he declare.

“This race weekend is going to be a bit difficult because we have a lot of tyres available for the front and we had to try everything to understand the way forward. We more or less understood today the direction to take for the sprint race and the race. We worked a lot on race pace, with the medium and the soft. The team gave me many opportunities to understand the tyres, which is very important on this circuit. Overall, I think our work today was positive and I'm satisfied: we achieved our goal. Tomorrow we will have to be a bit more ambitious and try to be stronger in qualifying to put the bike on the front or second row.”
