2024 MotoGP World Champion Jorge Martin is having a disastrous 2025, marked by repeated injuries and an imminent split with Aprilia, as reported by Motorsport. After joining the factory Aprilia team for a new adventure, the Madrid-born rider has been unable to realize his ambitions, hampered by accidents and a prolonged absence, leading him to consider terminating his contract at the end of the season.
World champion in 2024, George Martin is going through what could well be the worst season of his career in 2025. What was supposed to be a consecration with the official team aprilia-racing has turned into a real ordeal, between repeated injuries, lack of driving, and contractual frustration.
It all started at the pre-season test in Sepang, where Martin crashed heavily on the first day. An injury initially considered minor worsened when he resumed motocross training, causing further fractures. As a result, he was unable to participate in the opening race, and Dorna refused him a private test day to get to grips with the RS-GP before his return.
The final blow came at Qatar : diagnosis of 11 fractured ribs, without having run a single lap in race condition. Since then, Martin is out of the championship, and his return is expected at the earliest in mid-season, probably at Silverstone or Spielberg.
Between Jorge Martin and Aprilia, it could even end up in court...
But beyond the sporting aspect, the relationship with Aprilia seems irreparably damaged. While he had joined the Noale firm with the support of his friend Aleix Espargaró, now a Honda test driver, Martin would already be considering a contract termination at the end of 2025, as indicated MotorsportHe even started discussing it directly with the team management.
The champion is at home Aprilia for two years, but the contract of Martin with the Noale team stipulated that he could leave after the first season if he was not in the top positions of the standings after the French Grand Prix. This is obviously the case, in fact he hasn't even scored a point yet, given the accumulation of injuries.
Aprilia will probably not sit idly by, because it could not be otherwise. The Italian brand believes it has reasons to prove that the injury of Martin invalidates this clause and is ready to go to court to prevent its star from leaving a year early...
Disillusionment for Aprilia, who was betting on Martin to succeed I will espargaro as leader, and who could now find himself without a star driver as early as 2026, at the worst possible time to face the technical shift after 2026.
