KTM doesn't want to waste any time. To quickly close the gap with the MotoGP elite, the Austrian manufacturer has decided to beef up its testing program: after the Spanish Grand Prix in Jerez, the test facility will remain on site for an additional day with Dani Pedrosa at the helm of the RC16.

The mixed results at the start of the season highlighted one reality: the findings from winter testing were not fully transferable to real competition. KTM had already tried to organize an additional two-day test in Andalusia with Pedrosa et Pol Espargaro, but the capricious weather had forced the cancellation of the session. Another test at Misano was able to take place, but the freezing temperatures of the asphalt had also limited its usefulness.

This time, there was no question of letting the opportunity slip away. While the regular drivers KTM will leave Jerez on Monday evening after the official MotoGP test day, the test structure will remain in place. Dani Pedrosa will continue the work as soon as Tuesday April 29, in the hope of making up for the accumulated delay.

Dani Pedrosa's key role at KTM

« Overall, it's all about moving development forward. Munderfing is constantly providing us with updates and potential improvements, and recently, we weren't able to complete the test team's schedule as planned. With this extra day of testing and Dani's presence, we want to catch up. », explained on speedweek Sebastian Risse, technical director of KTM.

Let us remind you that" Dani Pedrosa had no longer piloted the KTM RC16 in Jerez since November 2024, during the final preparations before the winter break. His last outing on track was at the Misano test, three weeks ago.

Due to concession rules, only Honda et Yamaha can use their regular drivers for private testing. KTM must therefore rely exclusively on its test drivers to continue its development outside of official sessions.

The mission is clear for Pedrosa et KTM : make the most of this day to advance the RC16… and allow the official drivers to quickly find their way back to the podiums.
