Alex Márquez came within 88 of a second of pole position, but still has every chance of winning and pushing back his brother's title.
Discreet since the start of the weekend, Alex Marquez was nonetheless fast, finishing in the top six in each of the practice sessions: fourth in FP6, fifth in Practice and sixth in FP1 this morning. While other drivers appeared to be the favorites for pole position, like Marco Bezzecchi, the Spanish driver was able to pull off a perfect performance during qualifying.
In the running from the start of Q2, he set a solid time that seemed unbeatable throughout the session, until Bezzecchi beats him by 88 thousandths. Alex Marquez also saw Fabio Quartararo close to within six thousandths of a second. Although he had to give up for pole, he held on to second place and will therefore start from the front row in the sprint race and tomorrow in the main race.

A result he didn't expect, but which he considers fundamental on the Misano track, and which gives him a chance to glimpse victory since his brother Marc Márquez is only fourth. As a reminder, if the Gresini rider wins the sprint race, he will delay the title of the number 93.
"It's very important, we know that starting from the front row is super important for the first laps, for the start, it's always tricky. But I didn't expect the front row today. I struggled this morning, not during the first run but during the second. We pretty much aligned everything. It's true that we missed something in sector 4 to be on pole, but whatever happens I'm super happy with our work, and we're focusing on the sprint race.", he declared hot on the microphone of MotoGP.com.
