Fermín Aldeguer made contact with Brad Binder and enlivened the race with his overtaking maneuvers to achieve one of the best GPs of his season.
The Portuguese Grand Prix didn't offer the same spectacle as yesterday, where Álex Márquez and Pedro Acosta battled for victory practically throughout the sprint race. Sunday's race proved calmer, but fans could still count on... the overruns of Fermin Aldeguer to get their share of action.
This year's best rookie had to climb from 11th on the grid, and to do so, he needed a strong start. Gaining four places in three laps, he then battled Brad Binder for six laps, gradually putting pressure on the South African before launching his own attack. Binder responded, and the two drivers made contact during a forceful overtaking maneuver.Aldeguerwhich caused Binder to lose a rear wing in the battle. Ultimately, the Spaniard had the last word.
“Binder didn’t say anything to me, but I think it was a good battle, the kind that adds a bit of spice to the race. I’d already tried to overtake him at turn three, we were side-by-side at turn four, and at turn five, I tried to pass him, but he cut back across the racing line and there was contact, which I won. I consider it a racing incident, so if Race Direction didn’t say anything, there’s a reason.”, said Aldeguer.

He then attacked Fabio Quartararo shortly after Francesco Bagnaia made a mistake, which allowed him to move into fourth place. He then held that position until the finish line, delivering one of the best Grands Prix of his season. The only blemish on his record: his qualifying sessions, which are often difficult and an area where he needs to improve.
“I think if I had started further up the grid today, my position might have been the same, but at least I could have been with the leaders, made myself a bit more visible, even though I livened up the race with my overtakes. It’s by being in contact with the leaders that you learn the most. And it’s clear that we know where we need to improve.” he continued.
“Here, for one reason or another, I struggled to put in a fast lap. I was much better in race pace. I think that’s one of the things we’ll have to pay attention to for Valencia: finishing in the top five, because I usually get good starts, but when you’re at the back, in a pack, you can’t find the right line, you can’t brake where you want, and it becomes more complicated.”
