Acosta

Still no victory for Pedro Acosta in PortugalThe Spanish star met his match in Portimao. First, Marco Bezzecchi, whom he had held off yesterday in the sprint, comfortably beat him. And this time, he couldn't challenge Alex Marquez, despite a strong late charge. Acosta wasn't overjoyed at the finish, but he's very happy with another podium finish, which brings him closer to fourth place in the overall standings.

Pedro Acosta would have liked to do better, but Marco Bezzecchi and Alex Marquez had a head start on the Portuguese hills. "It was tough." It's not easy fighting with Alex and Marco, but I think we did well.We need to try and improve. I wanted to win, it's mainly a question of mentality. Today, it was entirely due to the first round. I think it was a very mental race; you had to be able to suffer, you had to know your position"It's true that in the end, we struggled to catch Álex again, but we showed good pace and didn't wear out the tires too much." he declared for Sky Sports.

Several times this season, Acosta has complained about his equipment, lamenting the apparent lack of performance of the KTMs compared to the Ducatis and Aprilias. Once again, he couldn't resist a little phrase that speaks volumes. "We're giving it our all with the bike we have. We're still missing a lot of things, but I'm not giving up." he continued. Translation: it's not possible to do better with this RC16.

Acosta therefore prefers a philosophical approach and is content with this result, made all the more impressive by Pecco Bagnaia's crash. He can now dream of fourth place overall. "I'm improving, both individually and as is the brand. We'll try our luck again next time." he concluded. Clearly, his first victory is now only a matter of time. Acosta has the talent and the mental strength to become a truly great rider, but it remains to be seen how long he will accept competing with equipment that is objectively inferior to that of his direct rivals.
