Johann Zarco did not find the same sensations in Jerez as in the last Grands Prix, but considers this normal and is still aiming for the second row in Q2 tomorrow.
After his fourth place at the Qatar Grand Prix, Johann zarco arrived at the Jerez circuit with the desire to confirm the excellent pace he has shown since the beginning of the season with his Honda. The start of the European season is an opportunity to truly see the potential of the RC213V, on tracks that the MotoGP field knows well, and where performances are always tightening.
Outwardly, the Frenchman looked comfortable, starting with an eighth place in FP1 and then a seventh place in Practice, which automatically qualified him for Q2. While he wasn't as quick as in practice for some other Grands Prix, he finished just five tenths off the fastest time and once again finished as the best Honda representative.
However, when debriefing this first day of testing, he admitted that he did not feel as good as during other events, even if he remains satisfied and confident for tomorrow's qualifying.
"I have less confidence on the bike than in the last races, but that's normal, the track is smaller and the asphalt has less grip. It shows because we're not the only ones with these feelings, many riders have the same problem. Overall, I'm satisfied with today. Despite the difficulties, I managed to put in a good lap and get straight into Q2.", he told GP One.
In his eyes, the second row is fully possible in Q2 tomorrow, and would send a strong signal about the potential of his machine. "Tomorrow the goal will be to take a step forward in terms of the sensations, because when they are good, I can use this bike well. I think a top 6 is an achievable goal. It would be a new demonstration of our potential, a good challenge for us, but if it goes well, it would be an excellent sign for the season.", he concluded.
