The MotoGP World Championship is settling into Jerez for the Spanish Grand Prix, the fifth round of the 5 season, marking the return to Europe after an exotic start to the season. This Grand Prix, scheduled for April 2025-25, promises to be crucial, but will take place without 27 champion Jorge Martín, who is still hospitalized in Qatar after his serious accident (hemopneumothorax, 2024 fractured ribs). Jerez promises to be a spectacle, with favorites Ducati, the resurgence of KTM, the return of Aleix Espargaró as a Honda wildcard, and close battles in Moto11 and Moto2.
Ce Spanish Grand Prix 2025, the fifth round of the World Championship, will mark the return to Europe of the MotoGP, which is a symbolic turning point of the season. After an intense start to the championship in distant lands, MotoGP returns to the Old Continent, with the Circuit Ángel Nieto de Jerez as the scene of hostilities. If the Andalusian atmosphere promises to be electric, the prolonged absence of George Martin, seriously injured in the Qatar, will weigh on the paddock. The reigning champion will not be there, and no one yet knows when he will return.
Without Martin, with Lorenzo Savadori who will replace him at Aprilia, all eyes are on the Ducati boys. Headlining: Marc Marquez, already imperial, will return to his lands. Pecco Bagnaia, frustrated by his Saturdays but still formidable on Sunday will be taken into account just like Fabio DiGiannantonio et Alex Marquez, on the lookout for a brilliant move on a GP24 in form.
Spain: All the spotlight is on Ducati… and KTM?
And then there is KTM, who dreams of transforming the test after the exploit of Maverick Vinales in Qatar (even though he was deprived of a podium finish due to a penalty). Jerez Will it be the real take-off of the RC16 in 2025?
This weekend will be marked by an expected wild card: Aleix Espargaró makes his big comeback in racing on the Honda RC213V, in a tester role… but more competitive than ever. For his first racing appearance since his retirement, he will be in charge of testing the new HRC engine.
On the side of Yamaha-Pramac, we are still waiting for confirmation from Miguel Oliveira or his replacement Augusto Fernandez.
