It took him 1134 days to win in qualifying again, his last pole position dating back to the 2022 Indonesian Grand Prix! The Frenchman had also not finished at the top of the standings, in any session, since FP2 in Qatar in 2023.
From FP1 yesterday, Quarterly had shown his form by finishing third, behind the Márquez brothers, then finishing the day in the top 5. He took third place again this morning in FP2 and moved up a notch in qualifying, dethroning Marc Márquez, who seemed unbeatable on this track, by 33 thousandths.
Emotions were obviously running high in the Yamaha clan and in the parc fermé when the number 20 arrived. Even though he knows that nothing is decided for the two races, and that tomorrow's longer race will be difficult to manage against the Ducatis, he did not hide his joy at being back at the front after so many difficult Grands Prix.
