Newly crowned MotoGP world champion Marc Marquez was involved in a violent collision in the opening corners of the Indonesian Grand Prix at the Mandalika International Circuit. Pushed to the ground by Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia), the factory Ducati rider suffered a heavy crash and had to be taken to the circuit's medical center for immediate medical attention.

Initial diagnoses revealed a fracture of the coracoid process – a bony protrusion located on the upper part of the scapula – as well as a ligament injury of the right shoulder. Ducati confirmed in a statement that These injuries were not related to Marquez's previous heavy trauma and that no significant bone displacement had been observed.

Marc Marquez not scheduled for surgery

The Spanish pilot of 32 years returned to Madrid for further tests at the Ruber International Hospital, where doctors chose a conservative treatment : the shoulder will be immobilized to allow bone consolidation without resorting to surgery.

Immediate consequence: Marc Marquez will be forfeit for the Australian and Malaysian Grands Prix, two crucial dates on the calendar MotoGPHis return date will depend on the speed of healing and functional recovery of his shoulder.

For Ducati, the loss of its star driver at this stage of the season is an additional blow in a climate already marked by technical doubts surrounding the GP25 symbolized by the situation of Pecco Bagnaia and by internal tensions over the hierarchy of machines within the brand.

The Indonesian circuit remains cursed for Marquez, which does not have never finished a race on this track. This accident puts an abrupt end to his run of performances which had seen him win his 7th MotoGP title in Japan two weeks earlier.

With only four races remaining after his potential return, Marc Marquez could see its season end on a sour note. Ducati will now have to focus on the fratricidal battle for 2nd place in the championship between Alex Marquez et Pecco Bagnaia, while the convalescent champion will watch from afar.
