Ahead of the arrival of the new bikes for 2027, the Grand Prix Commission has agreed to freeze the specifications for the previous season, and in particular the specification of the engines in MotoGP ™ will be frozen for 2026.

This means that factories must also use their 2025 engine designs the following season. Grand Prix Commission approved this proposal in order to control costs and maintain a level playing field as much as possible before MotoGP™ switches to new bikes in 2027.

These new bikes will make MotoGP™ safer, more sustainable and even more spectacular, and will feature completely new engine specifications. A development freeze in the previous season keeps costs under control for all, allowing the factories to focus on their new designs for 2027.

The only exceptions to this freeze will be for safety or reliability reasons, and for all manufacturers in dealership rank D (currently Yamaha and Honda). Corrections for safety or reliability reasons, or proven unavailability of components, may be authorized for all manufacturers, provided there is no increase in performance.

For dealership rank D factories, the engine specification freeze will not apply unless they move up a rank. Specifications will remain free as they currently are, allowing those with a larger performance deficit to continue working on key areas of their machines.
