This weekend at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, the spectacle won't stop at MotoAmerica races. A unique event will celebrate the legend of motorcycle racing with a victory lap featuring ten of the greatest names in history.
Three-time 500cc World Champion and two-time AMA Superbike Champion Wayne Rainey will lead the parade on Saturday, July 12, just before the opening ceremonies and the first Superbike race. Rainey, who hasn't ridden at Laguna Seca since the 1991 Grand Prix, will return to the Californian asphalt alongside nine other major motorcycle figures.
Among these, 6 other champions have shone on the world stage. We thus find Kenny Roberts, three-time world champion and two-time US champion, Eddie lawson (four-time world champion and two-time MotoAmerica Superbike champion), Freddie Spencer (triple world champion), Kenny Roberts Jr. (500cc world champion in 2000), Ben Spies (three-time AMA Superbike Champion and 2009 World Superbike Champion) and Kel Carruthers, 250cc world champion in 1969.
As well as 3 two-wheel stars on the American continent: Bubba Shobert (three-time champion and 1988 AMA Superbike champion), Rick Johnson (seven-time AMA Supercross and Motocross champion), as well as Doug Chandler, three-time AMA Superbike champion.
For Wayne Rainey, returning to the track with these legends is a great satisfaction. Especially since they all made their mark on the history of motorcycling and influenced his own career, both as a rider and as head of MotoAmerica. “I’m really looking forward to hitting the track at Laguna this weekend with the Legends, Rainey said on the official website of the disciplineToday, 34 years later, riding with these legends is a huge honor for me."
This lap of honor, much more than a simple nostalgic nod, embodies the transmission, respect and passion that unite all generations of drivers. These guys are all the best, and seeing them ride together on this track is a once-in-a-lifetime event. They've all had a big impact on motorcycling. They all hold a special place in the industry. They've all helped me throughout my racing career. I thank them all for making this event a special one. Our fans are going to really enjoy seeing the Legends on the track."
For fans and viewers alike, this will be a unique opportunity to see champions who have shaped the legend of motorcycle racing, each in their own discipline and era, gathered on the same track. Between the MotoAmerica races and this Legends Ride, Laguna Seca 2025 is already shaping up to be a thrilling weekend.
