A global icon of cinema, Steve McQueen will be honored at the 2026 edition of the show Rétromobile which will be held from January 28 to February 1 at Paris Expo, Porte de Versailles.

A legend of the film sets who marked the world cinematic landscape, Steve McQueen not only left behind an exceptional filmography, he is also known for his all-consuming passion for car and motorcycle racing.

« The great Escape » (1963), « Bullitt (1968) and Le Mans » (1970) are etched in the memory of enthusiasts, but his involvement in motor racing goes far beyond: who really remembers that the “King of Cool” drove a Cooper T56 single-seater as early as 1962 at Laguna Seca, was selected in 1964 by the American federation to be part of the “team USA” at the World Enduro Team Championships, the International Six Days of Trial (ISDT), or drove a Porsche 908 to 2nd place with Peter Revson at the 1970 12 Hours of Sebring?

It is primarily his passion for motorcycles that Rétromobile will showcase iconic models that have marked the actor's life, such as the 1961 Triumph TR6 from "The Great Escape", the 1971 Husqvarna 400 Cross, the 1971 Honda 250 SRM alongside the legendary 1968 Mustang Fastback from the film "Bullitt".

To pilot, Steve McQueen n'at pensé that's all his whole lifeHis passion for racing was so all-consuming that he would one day confide to his biographer, William F. Nolan, "that he doesn't know if he's an actor who's piloting or a pilot who plays ". Steve McQueen juggles both worlds, but his heart leans more towards competition. On two or four wheels, on the tracks of the Mojave desert to the hills of San Francisco or on the Mulsanne Straight, it doesn't matter.

It is this all-consuming passion that Rétromobile will pay tribute to in two weeks…
