Ducati is set to redefine the clutch with an innovative semi-automatic system, revealed by patents filed in May 2025. Unlike existing systems like Honda's E-Clutch, Yamaha's Y-AMT, or BMW's ASA, Ducati offers a hybrid solution that combines manual control and automation, while preserving traditional gear shifting. This development, expected on sports bikes and in WorldSBK, aims to cleverly circumvent regulations while offering versatility and performance...

Behind the closed doors of Borgo Panigale, Ducati is about to launch a technical innovation that is as discreet as it is formidably strategic: a semi-automatic clutch system capable of combining modern power-assisted technology with traditional sporting spirit. A bold compromise between cutting-edge technology and rider experience, with a single goal in mind: to dominate the road and circumvent the limitations of the Superbike regulations.

At first glance, the concept is reminiscent of what Honda (E-Clutch), Yamaha (Y-AMT) or BMW (ASA) have already explored. But Ducati, true to its reputation for mechanical excellence, does not imitate: it transcends.

Two versions are under development : Version 1 with an intelligent hydraulic system, activated by an electric motor. Ideal for adapting the technology to current motorcycles without major transformation. Version 2: more radical, where the clutch lever becomes a simple electronic transmitter, retaining a mechanical feel but with fully digital control. This is "ride-by-wire"... applied to the clutch.

What does this system offer? No more stalling when starting. A clutch that adapts to your pace: it automatically engages or disengages when stopped or during slow maneuvers. integrated launch control, which adjusts the throttle and clutch for MotoGP-style starts. A optimized management of upshifts and downshifts, thanks to a sensor in the selector and dedicated electronics for “blips” when descending. And all this... without the rider having to abandon the good old foot selector.

Between track and legality: Ducati's real masterstroke

Why is this innovation happening now? To beat the rivals… while respecting the rules of the WSBK. Because the regulations prohibit the automatic clutch… unless it is standard on the homologated motorcycle. Ducati so prepare a real technological Trojan horse : a system approved for road use, and therefore legally usable on the track. In other words, it's not just a step forward for the average motorcyclist. It's a regulatory weapon of war, which could be a game-changer in World Superbike.

This technological offensive reminds us that at DucatiEvery road-going innovation is designed for the track. After aerodynamics, holeshot devices, and hollow swingarms, here comes the 2.0 clutch. And the message is clear: it was worth the wait. Ducati doesn't chase trends. It redefines them.

Next chapter? Probably a presentation at an international trade fair... but above all, a next panigale ready to make a name for herself — and to make her rivals in the WSBK paddock talk. Ducati doesn't change the rules. It anticipates them and bends them to its vision. This new semi-automatic clutch is proof: performance isn't always shouted. Sometimes, it's activated silently... in the heart of a hydraulic box.

The next Ducati will be automatic. The clutch war will be radical, and they will have no competition with a very beastly version.
