Rider Ornella Ongaro has successfully undergone surgery after her crash in Hungary and is hopeful of returning for her home round.
Victim of a collision during the first lap of Race 1 in Hungary last weekend, Ornella Ongaro fractured her right humerus and was forced to withdraw. The Frenchwoman chose to return to France for surgery, making a 17-hour drive from the Balaton Park circuit.
The operation took place on Tuesday morning at the Tzanck Institute, near Nice, and was carried out by Dr. Chauvet, in coordination with the team ofOrnella Ongaro, based at the Nice Institute of Sport and Osteoarthritis. The injury turned out to be more complex than expected, but no tendons were affected and the pilot suffered no loss of mobility. “A nail, several screws and a net were installed, without any problems.”, specified the entourage ofOngaro in a statement.
She will now begin her rehabilitation with the aim of competing in the next round of the Women's World Championship, which will be held at the Nevers Magny-Cours circuit from September 5 to 7. The Frenchwoman will do everything she can to be present at her national event and will have to overcome, in addition to the physical challenge, the financial difficulties caused by her accident.
“My motivation remains intact. I’m a huge enthusiast who never gives up, and mentally, I wasn’t affected at all by this accident. And you know… Riding without training, or without being 100% ready, even physically, is unfortunately what I’ve been doing every day since I started again last year, due to a lack of financial means. So I know. And despite everything, I’m still here.”, she wrote on her social networks.

"What worries me most is the financial means and being able to get everything together after the damage caused by this collision to be able to be operational on that side for Magny-Cours. Yes, it's a bit annoying to have pain and be disabled in one arm. However, it's only temporary. Some people have a disability in one arm forever, so I'm not going to complain about just a few days of losing an arm, that would be a shame!"
"Thank you all for your messages and your support. I read them every day, and this enthusiasm is incredible. It's not easy, but I'm doing what I can to achieve my goal, which is to ride at Magny-Cours. I'm counting on you to help me put everything together."
Ornella Ongaro calls for generosity to help him return in the best possible conditions in September through a kitty, shared on its social networks.
