An official press release from the Movistar Yamaha MotoGP team has just confirmed the information we have recently released:

VR46 MEDICAL UPDATE, 01-09-17 – 10:30

Last night, MotoG Movistar Yamaha team rider Valentino Rossi underwent successful surgery on displaced fractures of the tibia and fibula in his right leg.

The MotoGP star was hospitalized after an enduro crash last night.

Following a medical examination at the Ospedale Civile di Urbino, where he was first diagnosed, the Italian was transported to the Azienda Ospedaliero-Universitaria Ospedali Riuniti in Ancona.

Upon arrival, he underwent surgery between 2 a.m. and 3 a.m. by Dr. Raffaele Pascarella, Director of the Orthopedic and Trauma Department. During surgery, the fractures were fixed using a metal pin – an intramedullary nail – without complications.
