Currently fourth in the provisional Championship standings with 30 points, Dovi remains the leading driver of the Reds, his pursuers being quite distant, including Scott Redding ninth with 21 points, Alvaro Bautista twelfth with 14 and Jorge Lorenzo thirteenth with 12.

Dovizioso finished 5th in the 2016 Championship with Ducati, thanks to a superb victory obtained at Sepang, 3 seconds ahead Valentino Rossi and 11 ahead Jorge Lorenzo. He completed his record from last year with three second places in Qatar, Austria and Japan, as well as a third in Germany.

After this Austin Grand Prix, we find him with his 30 points among the leaders, behind Valentino who has 56 points, Maverick Vinales 50 and Marc Marquez 38. The pursuers are not far away, however, especially Cal Crutchlow with its 29 units and Dani Pedrosa with its 27.

Last Friday, Andrea finished sixth on the first day, having little appreciated the bumps and the cool temperature. Lorenzo was eleventh. On Saturday, the two Ducati teammates were among the many riders who crashed, with Dovizioso also breaking down on the circuit. He qualified seventh, just behind his teammate Lorenzo who had to go through Q1.

Starting from the third row, Andrea completed the first lap in eighth position, then overtook Lorenzo and took advantage of Vinales' fall to move up to sixth place. He found himself isolated between Cal Crutchlow and Johann Zarco, fighting for fourth place, and more than five seconds ahead of the group made up of Andrea Iannone, Danilo Petrucci, Jorge Lorenzo, Jack Miller and Jonas Folger. He crossed the finish line in sixth position, first among the Ducati riders, but frustrated at not having been able to achieve better.

According to Andrea Dovizioso, “ It’s been a tough weekend. During the race we never had the pace we had hoped for.

“It was a shame because I expected more from this GP, but the result confirms that unfortunately we still have a lot to do to resolve some of the limitations of our bike and to be able to stay with our rivals on all circuits. »
