Andrea Iannone is spending his vacation in Ibiza ahead of the resumption of MotoGP from August 4 to 6 in Brno in the Czech Republic.

The Suzuki rider set the record straight by answering questions from Paolo Ianieri in an interview published today in Gazetta dello Sport.

Excerpts…

The first half of the season fell far short of your expectations...

“That surprised me too. In Qatar, I fell but I was fighting for the podium. But the problems had started before, during the tests in Australia, then at Losail. It is a long journey that must be faced. »

Lately, shooting Iannone seems all the rage. In Germany, Kevin Schwantz did not go easy on the critics…

“I deplore it. Personally, he never spoke to me about certain things, I would have preferred him to say them to my face. But it doesn't hurt me, I'm personally experiencing what's happening now, and I know it depends on the situation. Around me there is noise and confusion because everyone was expecting something different. »

There is also the accusation that your private life interferes with your activities as a pilot…

" That does not bother me. I'm happy with what I'm doing, because I always give my best. If I finish tenth or if I fight for victory, I give 110%. I am at peace with my conscience. I already went through this situation at Ducati, and the results will arrive here too, it's just a matter of time. Every challenge has pros and cons, risk always exists. If you are lucky right away, everything is fine, but Valentino in 2011 and Jorge now have also struggled at Ducati. »

What do you have asked Suzuki technicians for details?

“Above all, during the last meeting at the Sachsenring, I confirmed that despite a lot of noise, I did not want to leave, that I believed in the factory and in the people who work there. We must believe in each other. »

You think also that Suzuki should field four motorcycles?

“I always pushed for this, with Davide (Brivio). We reiterated this to the president during the visit to Japan. I think it will happen. »

For many, Ducati should have kept Dovizioso-Iannone…

“It would have been a more economical choice. But Jorge will get there. »
