Miguel Oliveira and Franco Morbidelli hold on from the start of the session at turn #3. If the Italian gets up without damage, the Portuguese unfortunately holds his arm, a possible sign of a broken collarbone, and will not take the handlebars again.
At the top of the provisional ranking, we quickly find Johann zarco et Sam Lowes, the fastest man last year in this same session. Takaaki Nakagami and Tom Lüthi come to join in the debates but the French driver remains in control of the situation in 1'54.486 after the first 10 minutes.
This is generally the moment when Alex Rins, although suffering from gastroenteritis, made his first appearance in the Top 3.
The best time is improved by Jonas Folger in 1'54.284.
On the wild card side, Steven Odendaal fall without gravity while Alan Techer made a very good performance by temporarily positioning himself 19th on the handlebars of his NTS T Pro.
Anxious to do well, the South African driver fell again a few minutes later.
The final rush sees Jonas Folger improve but it's ultimately Sam Lowes who places his name at the top of the list, in 1'53.767, or within 6 hundredths, the same time as last year which also allowed him to win in this FP1.
Johann zarco finished 5th, 7 tenths behind, Alan Techer 22nd two seconds behind, Robin Mulhauser 28th.
