For Jonas Folger, the number 1 opponent is above all Johann Zarco.
Not that the German rider has anything to reproach the Frenchman, quite the contrary, but the two members of the Monster Tech3 team are aiming for the same objective, namely the title of best MotoGP 17 Rookie.
After the mishap that occurred to Johann Zarco at Misano and the ninth place obtained by the German driver, the gap between the two men is only 26 points in favor of the Frenchman. An interval that, in the good conditions expected this weekend, number 94 hopes to be able to reduce by a few units...
Jonas Folger : “As always, I'm looking forward to the Aragon round because I think it's a beautiful track and one of the most enjoyable circuits we go to. For sure, we're going to have typical Spanish weather, and what's more, the track is great, providing a lot of driving pleasure. There's also a good mix of corners and hard braking, plus a long straight, so overall it's a track I really like. I hope we score more points in Aragon than we did in Misano, because I always want to win the battle for the best Rookie in the championship. We lost a bit of ground in the last few races, so we need to make up some points, but I will fight. »
Hervé Poncharal : “We are going to the Aragon Grand Prix and it is always a very special race since it is the last in Europe before the three overseas. It is a magical circuit with a beautiful environment and plenty of space, which has allowed the organizers to build a large paddock that can satisfy all teams. The Grand Prix is always exciting and, clearly, the championship is very close at the front, so we are guaranteed a competitive race. As for the Monster Yamaha Tech3, this year each round is a new experience for our two beginner riders. We weren't able to finish where we wanted to in Italy, mainly due to the weather conditions which didn't help us since we had almost no experience on a fully wet track. However, we now have some knowledge in these conditions. Both drivers are keen to get back to where they were a few races ago, namely fighting in the top 6, both in qualifying and in the race. Jonas has been a bit unlucky recently, so we're sure his fortunes will change and he'll return to the level he was at in Germany. This will be great for him and his team who all work really hard. As for Johann, he will do his best, as he always does, and attack whatever the conditions. It will be interesting for Yamaha because there will be a new face at this round, and even if it is not in the Monster Yamaha Tech3 team, we want to welcome Michael Van Der Mark who replaces Valentino. It’s a weekend we look forward to because we love this track and the racing there is always incredible. I hope all the fans of the Monster Yamaha Tech3 team will be there to support us in Aragon. »
