In a very competitive first qualifying session, with only two places available for transfer to Q2, Jorge Lorenzo managed to secure his passage by setting the best time. He will be accompanied for the second qualifying session by Johann Zarco.

The field of this Q1 was of a very good level with Jorge Lorenzo, Johann Zarco, Loris Baz et Danilo Petrucci, accompanied byHector Barbera, Karel Abraham, Sam Lowes, Bradley Smith, Alex Rins, Jack Miller, Pol Espargaro, Scott Redding, Tito Rabat et Jonas Folger.
During the first ride, Jorge Lorenzo took the lead in 1'49.179, 0.3 ahead Jack Miller, 0.5 ahead Karel Abraham and 0.9 ahead John Zarco. Abraham, looking for Lorenzo, moved into second position, 0.2 behind the Spanish leader. Jack Miller was third, ahead Pol Espargaro, Johann Zarco et Danilo Petrucci.
On the occasion of the second and final run, Jack Miller came second behind Lorenzo, 0.1 from the official Ducati rider. Then Johann zarco overtook the Australian and took second place from him by 0.009.
