A Historic Q1, in the sense that no less than half a dozen top drivers competed to be drafted, the old hands Dani Pedrosa and Valentino Rossi came out to come and face their little comrades in this last qualification of the 12 best drivers, at great displeasure of the Ducati riders, and especially of Andrea Dovizioso who thus sees his chances of having a good race compromised.

Weather-wise, the drizzle is still present and everyone is using rain tires for this 15-minute session which could well reveal a few more surprises, the satellite drivers, starting with Loris Baz, always being over-motivated as soon as they feel that the tricky track offers them a chance to show off…
From the first rounds, Dani Pedrosa takes the lead in front Danilo Petrucci, Valentino Rossi and Loris Baz. The latter then took command in 1'49.630 before Marc Márquez does not lower the reference time to 1'48.571.
The track begins to dry slightly on the lines and the drivers stop to fit a new rear tire. Upon resumption, Cal Crutchlow first goes to third position before Pedrosa and Petrucci do not come between Márquez and Baz.
Taking full advantage of the drying trajectories, Andrea Iannone tried to ride slicks but it didn't pay off. Conversely, Karel Abraham always surprises by moving up to second position behind Marquez even though he had never qualified on the front row until now.
Relive Marc Marquez's qualifying round:
Incredible first EVER front row for Karel Abraham!

In the end, the first three lines present us with an extraordinary panorama to say the least, mixing factory drivers and satellite drivers, all with enormous gaps.
With 3 bikes in the Top5, Honda is the big winner of this session while Ducati saves the furniture with its satellite bikes.
