For his first Grand Prix on the GSX-RR, Andrea Iannone greatly impressed. After starting from the front row, between the new hero Maverick Vinales and the reigning World Champion Marc Marquez, “The Maniac” led his Suzuki into third position from the seventh to the tenth lap, behind Andrea Dovizioso, stuck to Marquez and with Vinales in his wheel.

A loop later, Iannone and his Suzuki were in the gravel trap, but the duo had shown speed equal to those of the best pairs Yamaha, Ducati and Honda. The disappointment was great, but the future was just as promising and bright.

Iannone now arrives in Argentina, where an unfortunate mistake last year saw him dive on the inside of his then Ducati teammate Andrea Dovizioso on the final lap, causing both men to crash. The two official Desmosedici occupying the second and third steps of the podium in this final loop in front of Valentino Rossi, the latter recovered second position, while Gigi Dall'Igna decided sine die that Iannone would be the one of the two Ducati riders who would give up his place in 2017 to Jorge Lorenzo.

But Andrea arrives this year confident in the country of Juan Manuel Fangio after his good Qatari performance. For Iannone, “ I'm really happy to arrive at the second race of the season. I don't want to hide that I want to redeem myself after the disappointment in Qatar.

“I think Argentina can be a favorable track for us and I like it a lot. It's technical and fast, and I like it. I hope the track conditions will be good. Usually there is a lot of dirt and it requires some time to develop good grip. I hope it will be better this year. »

His teammate Alex Rins was also one of Qatar's heroes in his first MotoGP race, finishing ninth and first rookie, beating Jonas Folger to the wire. So far everything was going well, but then Alex crashed during motocross training on his RM-Z. A small fracture of the talus was detected at the Dexeus University Hospital, and Rins was advised to undergo treatment based on magnetotherapy and physiotherapy.

The results were not very satisfactory because Alex can hardly support himself on his foot, and the mobility of his ankle is reduced. He will try to ride on Friday while continuing his treatment at the same time, and will be closely monitored after each session by the organization's doctors at Termas de Rio Hondo, who will authorize him to participate or not.

According to Alex Rins, “My first race in Qatar was a very exciting experience, so much so that I feel like this weekend was too short. I can't wait to relive this emotion in Argentina.

“Termas de Río Hondo is one of the tracks that I like. I think I'll get a taste for the speed of the GSX-RR and I also expect the straight to be very short compared to Moto2. I had this injury while training last week. It's not very serious, but it will take some recovery time. I really hope that I won't be too hampered by the pain, because I'm really looking forward to continuing my learning in MotoGP. »
