The Del Conca Gresini team returns from Austin happy. Not only did Jorge Martín win, but he dominated the category throughout the weekend and regained the lead in the World Championship. Fabio Di Giannantonio also achieved an excellent result, even if he is not entirely satisfied.

Jorge Martín will have impressed this weekend by dominating his opponents from start to finish. Always discreet during the sessions, he knew how to get the right time in the last minutes to finish at the top of the timesheet each time, and we didn't see how the other drivers could prevent him from winning on Sunday.

However, everything was not so obvious for the Spanish driver: “The race was really difficult at the start because I was on hard tyres. I knew how to stay calm and not take any risks, then with five laps to go I gave 100% to produce my effort and try to distance the others. »

As soon as Martín took the lead, no one could stop him, and he himself admits, in all modesty, that he was really on top this weekend: “It wasn't easy because Bastianini had great pace, but I was really untouchable. Thanks to my entire team who worked hard to prepare a perfect bike for me! »

His teammate Fabio Di Giannantonio also believed in victory throughout the race, before surrendering in the final laps. In third position and caught by the drivers behind, he fought on the last lap to keep his place, but ultimately lost it by only 74 thousandths and finished fifth.

On arrival, the Italian driver showed his disappointment: “We chose the medium tire and at the end of the race I didn't have any left. It's a real shame because we had shown that we were fast all weekend and we wanted to fight for victory. Can’t wait for Jerez. »
