At the end of a very spectacular Grand Prix, the leader of the World Championship left his rivals behind without respite whenever he wanted, with 5 laps remaining. Breaking away from the peloton on the twenty-third lap with a 0.6 lead, he then widened a gap of 0.8 during the next loop, then 1.9 and 2.1 before crossing the finish line with a lead of 1.7.

When Marquez decided to leave, no one could counter him and the three Yamahas of Valentino Rossi, Maverick Vinales et Johann zarco were only able to compete for second place on the podium. “ The strongest man won, or rather Marquez, he is above all the rest », Estimated Carlo Pernat.

« He won at the end of an incredible race, he loves to fight and didn't hold back in Australia either. When he realized things were getting dangerous, he went ahead alone. The championship is now practically a fait accompli. »

There was a lot of fighting on Phillip Island, perhaps sometimes a little too much according to Pernat: “ It's very dangerous, the newcomers seem to create problems, Zarco for example. Fortunately, we still see good racing in Australia. I'm only sorry that this championship seems to be ending early, although I hope the title won't be decided before Valencia.

“The fact remains that Marquez now has a significant advantage to build on, too bad for Ducati. 2017 was nevertheless a wonderful year for the guys in red, and all the credit goes to them. »

“Dovizioso and Ducati have failed. Andrea doesn't really like the Australian track, but was motivated after his victory in Japan. Some grip issues arose over the weekend and these weighed heavily on Sunday. »

One of the positive points of the weekend was the great performance of Andrea Iannone aboard the Suzuki: “ It was like seeing the old Iannone – remembers Pernat – but the road to progress is still long and we will have to wait until 2018 before seeing anything big. »
