The contract between Michelin and Dorna for the supply of tires for the MotoGP World Championship has been extended by five years until the end of 2023.

This was just announced during the Michelin® Australian Grand Prix at Phillip Island.

Michelin had replaced Bridgestone in 2016 after a seven-year absence and, in that first year, was delighted that nine different winners were celebrated, demonstrating that racing was more open than before.

Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO of Dorna Sports: “I am very happy that MotoGP and Michelin have extended their cooperation for another five years; the current contract extends until the end of the 2018 season. The MotoGP World Championship has become even more exciting since Michelin returned after seven years. We are proud to have laid the foundation for another five years. For me, Michelin is the best tire manufacturer in the world. The fact that Michelin is on board by the end of 2023 is excellent news for the championship, for the teams and the drivers. »

Pascal Gouasnon, Director of Michelin Motorsport: “In the first two years with Michelin, it has been shown that tire performance and tire strategy have greatly contributed to improving the show. We are delighted that Michelin has earned the trust of Carmelo Ezpeleta and his team over these two years. We will do everything possible to make our MotoGP tires even safer and more competitive. The 17-inch tires allow us to carry out a direct technology transfer to the series. It's different in Formula One. There, we use 13 inches, which is far from the series. That's why we turned to Formula E with 18-inch wheels. »
