It is a half-fig, half-grape Jorge Lorenzo who learned the lessons of a Austrian Grand Prix which had nevertheless given him his best overall result since he rode a Ducati. Certainly, he didn't get on the podium like in Jerez. But he started from the first row and his fourth position is only a little over six seconds behind the winner: his teammate Dovizioso. Once again, one could say...
And that’s precisely what upsets him and that’s also what his employers insist on. Given his track record, and even if his experience with Desmosedici is only growing, we expect better from Por Fuera. But he fights, tries and gets closer to his first success. Didn't he lead the first ten laps with authority? Then he got caught. He explains why: “ I encountered two problems. First the fuel consumption. From the third lap, I had to lower the engine power and my bike was slower than usual. I lost ground in a straight line. Then on the twelfth lap, my rear tire deteriorated on the right side. I don't know if the soft ones were the best solution, but Dovizioso won with them, so probably yes ».
But fourth at 6.6s is not what we are looking for Lorenzo : " I want more, obviously, and my team expects more too. We are progressing and I hope that the Misano tests will help me to move forward further. The first victory with Ducati can happen at any time. It depends on the circuit too. Austria has never appealed to me, unlike Silverstone or Misano. It depends on the weather too. If it rains in Britain, we'll be there to win. If the conditions are mixed, we'll see. If it's dry, I'll be more comfortable than at the start of the season. The Misano tests will help me ».
With his fourth place, Lorenzo moves to seventh in the championship to the detriment of Jonas Folger who had to give up. Por Fuera is 20 points behind sixth, John Zarco.
