The sky continues to get heavier and heavier but no rain is forecast and the temperatures of 20° in the air and 28° on the track are almost ideal for good times.

At least, good times as long as it doesn't rain since after having considered several solutions during the Safety Commission (reduction of speed, motorcycles arranged perpendicular to the Pit-lane, spaced distribution of boxes, etc.), it It seems that it was decided not to race in the rain, because of the rubber left at the end of the straight on the left side of the track by the Formula 1 cars.

Danilo Petrucci et Dani Pedrosa having been drafted in Q.1, there are now 12 of them competing to determine the first half of the starting grid, with Marc Marquez, Johann Zarco, Andrea Iannone, Jorge Lorenzo, Valentino Rossi, Andrea Dovizioso, Maverick Vinales, Loris Baz, Karel Abraham and Cal Crutchlow.

All time lap record

1'23.142 Iannone 2016

“Who can beat Marc Márquez? » This is the question on everyone's mind when the bikes take to the track for this 15-minute qualifying session.

When the session opens, Loris Baz covers the wheel of Marc Márquez but this one clearly means that he does not agree. He also does not agree that Andrea Iannone who was trying to do the same thing. As a result, the arms are waved in all directions and we waste time...

In the meantime, Valentino Rossi recorded a 1'24.558 during his first flying lap, just ahead of his teammate. We then notice that John Zarco has not yet taken to the track: undoubtedly a strategy by the blond wizard to save a tire for the race...

In the next passage, it is Maverick Vinales which lowers the provisional reference to 1'24.208 ahead Jorge LorenzoMore Marc Marquez, who got rid of his pursuers, hit hard with a 1'23.473, ahead of the two official Yamahas.

Midway through the session, Johann zarco enters the track while Andrea Dovizioso climbs to second position. We then find the following hierarchy: Marquez, Dovizioso, Vinales, Rossi, Petrucci, Lorenzo, Abraham, Ianonne, Pedrosa, Baz et Crutchlow.

Johann zarco made a cautious entry for four laps, first positioning himself 11th before moving up to eighth place.

There are three minutes left and Cal Crutchlow climbs to fifth place but his time is canceled for having exceeded the limits of the track. This is not the case of Jorge Lorenzo which rises to second position, just like Johann zarco which rises to fifth place.

Cal Crutchlow manages to register the sixth beat but it is Marc Márquez which further improves the best reference in 1'23.235.

In extremis, Danilo Petrucci enters the second line while Andrea Dovizioso takes second position.

70th pole position for Marc Marquez !
