Despite the snow which made an unexpected appearance there at the end of last week (see here), the F1s were able to carry out their pre-season testing on the Barcelona-Catalunya circuit.

As we have seen (see here), it has had a facelift for this 2018 season, not only with regard to the improvements linked to curve number 13, but also with a complete resurfacing of the Catalan route which makes it much faster.

As a result, the British pilot Lewis Hamilton, who nevertheless loves motorcycles and recently trained with Cal Crutchlow (see here), paradoxically finds the surface too smooth and blames MotoGP riders for this.

Lewis Hamilton : “This track has been resurfaced and there are no more bumps. I'm not entirely sure why they resurfaced as I think it's a waste of money. The older the surface, the more character it gives to a circuit. They smoothed it out a lot, which made a track like Barcelona lose a lot of its character.

They've done it at many circuits and I guess it has something to do with MotoGP, so we have this point of discordance. I love MotoGP, but they hate us because we make (the track) bumpy, and we hate them because they keep making us have these big runoff areas.

The track is faster than in the past, much, much faster, with much more grip, so it's hard to say if the car is much better or if it's because of the track, the tires or the adhesion. »
