The route of the fateful turn #13 of the Catalunya circuit where Luis Salom lost his life during the last Grand Prix is definitively abandoned, both in F1 and in MotoGP.
Started in mid-January, the “special MotoGP” intermediate chicane is now finished, as shown in the photo above. Perhaps this is due to an optical effect linked to the wide angle of the lens, but it seems very slow to us, more than that of the F1.
In any case, it's for a good cause and we will have to wait until the weekend of June 11 to collect the pilots' impressions. Remember that the route should also use the short version of turn #9, thus bringing its length to 4652 meters.
Will the old route (in red) be occasionally used for certain events? Yes, in particular during the Motorcycle Endurance event which takes place there, since it was judged that with almost 900 entries in the pit lane, it was more dangerous to use and slow down in this chicane. As a result, more gravel was placed on the outside of turn #13.
