“The Roman Emperor” returned to the serious accident he suffered a year and a half ago and the consequences it had in his life.

In June 2017, Max Biaggi was the victim of a fall, seemingly trivial, while training in Supermoto, but which turned out to be extremely serious, and the former World Champion saw death close up.

On the occasion of his participation in the Italian show Sunday In, he returned to the circumstances of his accident: “I fell at 40 km/h, but I don't remember anything, only waking up in the emergency room. I had 12 broken sides and a punctured lung. 80% of people who find themselves in this situation do not survive. Before the second operation I feared the worst and believed that I would not make it. »

The Italian driver eventually recovered from his injuries, but has been changed forever by this event: “I understood what made me happy and what made me move forward with hope and joy: it was my children. After this accident I gave myself priorities and I, somewhat unfortunately I must say, became more cynical. I also removed the superfluous from my daily life. I saw life narrowing, like a road when you go over 300 km/h, and I started to change what I needed to change. »

However, passion for motorcycles remains the strongest, and even if he will no longer race, he has decided to continue riding: “I promised my father I would say goodbye to motorcycles, but I was talking about racing. Now I no longer ride competitively and only do it for my pleasure. »
