For the moment, we are content withannounce a probable announcement while revealing a bundle of presumptions that cannot lie: Datuk Razlan Razali, general manager of the Sepang International Circuit, was forced to cut short a meeting with disadvantaged children in Kuala Lumpur yesterday to catch a plane in mid-air and go urgently to a meeting with Dorna at the Mugello circuit.
The commercial director of the Sepang International Circuit, Sharmila Nadarajah, indicated that this will be a historic moment for Malaysian motorsport: “Datuk Razlan is currently in Mugello where he has a meeting with Dorna. I can't say much now, we have to wait for him to come back, hopefully there will be an exciting announcement. SIC, in a way, is creating history in two- and four-wheel motorsports, and now people know we have the talent to race on a bigger world stage”.
SIC is related to Petronas in Moto3 with Adam Norrodin and Ayumu Sasaki. The name of Petronas, the Malaysian national oil company, has been on the lips for several weeks but has recently become more vocal about a project consisting of putting Jorge Lorenzo on the handlebars of a Yamaha factory in a private team which would gradually move from the supervision of Marc VDS to the one of Valentino Rossi, all alongside Franco Morbidelli (and probably not Hafizh Syahrin who is at odds with Petronas since last fall)...
Questioned on the subject at a press conference, the Doctor kicked in by responding with his favorite weapon, humor: “you know, after trying to stop Zarco, I will also try to stop Lorenzo (laughs)! All joking aside, I've been with Jorge for a long time and he's a really good driver. He is able to ride the Yamaha very fast and I think it will be tough if Lorenzo comes back (on it). But you know, the situation would be very similar to this year, because this year we have Zarco who is very, very strong. So when you're at Yamaha you always have a great teammate and a fast rider on the same bike. On the one hand, it is more difficult, but it is also beneficial because you have greater motivation. You can also see how other riders ride the bike and try to learn to improve. »
Simple paddock fantasy? It's possible, but it's not certain!
