During practice for the Catalan GP, the British KTM rider was thrown from his bike during a high side in the second corner. He was not seriously injured, but the risk of infection was enormous.

« My hand remained under the handlebars for a few seconds, Bradley then explained. But it was enough to tear the skin off an old wound from 2013. We went to the university hospital Quiron Dexeus to Barcelona where we cleaned the wound.

“On Sunday morning, I went to the Medical Center. Then we all decided I wouldn't race. The risk of infection was very high. »

During the post-GP test, Smith was replaced by Mika Kallio. The Englishman was having his hand treated intensively in order to be able to participate in the Dutch GP this week at the Circuit van Drenthe.

Currently his situation is improving in terms of health, and his participation in the Batavian event is not called into question: “ Since my fall, my finger has been examined every 24 hours to ensure no infection was present and to monitor the healing process.

“So far, the doctors are satisfied. No skin transplants or other operations are planned, which is fantastic. They don't expect a full recovery from the injury given the short time, but I should be ready for the Assen race.

“Now we must do everything possible to speed up the healing process. Hopefully I'll be back to 90% for Assen in just over a week. »
